Loeki Stardust Collection: Italian Recorder Music; Concerti di Flauti; Baroque Recorder Music; Extra

The Dutch Loeki Stardust Quartet was established in 1978, and from the outset was not your 'normal' group of recorder-players. Sure, Baroque repertoire figured prominently intheir concerts, but the concerts often contained surprises, substituting the last chord of a canzone with a well-known TV signature tune for example, in this case Loeki the Lion was the TV program that gave the quartet its name. Wanting to give concerts that were a crossover between St Martin in the Fields and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young was the aim in the early years. A series of big engagements followed, including the Wigmore Hall with Christopher Hogwood, and then recordings for Decca which are included in this 4CD set. The maverick style of the group came to the fore again, when after a successful sequence of Baroque recordings they released a recording of music by Erroll Garner, Henry Mancini, Lennon and McCartney and Charlie Parker together with works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, J.C. and J.S. Bach. Never before has the recorder sounded so much fun!

Il Tempo means Time. Time is defined as the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole. This CD is a compilation expanded over time of Pasquale's favorite arias from Italian operas, already loved Neapolitan music and pop-opera songs. Also included is Pasquale's own original recording; the new hit single Always and Forever.

Vivaldi & Chedeville: Complete Recorder Sonatas from 'Il Pastor

The authorship of these Recorder Sonatas are worthy of a character study involving deception at its core making these perhaps as much historic curios as works to be considered. Written by the musette player and composer of some note, Nicolas Chedeville submitted a grouping of his compositions, attributed them to Vivaldi for greater profits, and only in 1990 was definitive proof established of the subterfuge. The shrouded provenance of these sonatas are contrasted with solid performances by the Ensemble Pro Musica along with noted Early Music soloists, Stefano Bagliano (recorder), Andrea Coen (harpsichord and organ). With extensive liner notes.

Paradiso Armonico: Italian Chamber Music in

The members of More Maiorum play on period instruments More Maiorum cherrypicked instrumental and some vocal pieces for an anthology devoted to the vital and multicoloured Italophile musical life in the Netherlands. From the 1630s onwards Italian composers gradually gained popularity in the Low Countries. Local composers were influenced by the more modern Italian compositions and (amateur) performers enjoyed the impressive growth of publications. The title of the cd, Paradiso Armonico, refers to all the variants of 'Paradise' used as a metaphor in titles of collections of vocal and instrumental music published in the Low Countries in the early 17th century. Such works include Phalèse's Paradiso musicale (Antwerp 1596), Nicolas Vallet's Paradisus musicus testudinis (Amsterdam 1618) and Matthysz' Der Gooden Fluythemel (Amsterdam, 1644). More Maiorum began as an initiative taken by several students from the Koninklijk Conservatorium and the Rijksuniversiteit in Ghent who pursue the stylistically correct performance of Baroque music on period instruments. Their repertoire comprises chamber music for three to six performers composed between 1560 and 1740. Constanze Backes works frequently with such eminent conductors as Paul McCreesh, Hermann Max, René Jacobs and John Eliot Gardin...

Monteverdi: L'Incoronazione Di

With this version of L' incoronazione di Poppea, Baroque expert Rene Jacobs produces one of the most recognized versions of Monteverdi's last opera. Supported by the ensemble Concerto Köln and the famous singers Patricia Schuman, Richard Croft, Kathleen Kuhlmann and Harry Peeters, this interpretation shows the very modern aspects of a piece first performed in 1642.
